Getting a book from a library is the traditional reason for visiting. In the information age, however, you can now go to the library and get expert help on searching the internet to find any information you need. Libraries are sources of all information, paper, electronic and digital. The system has been transformed but what did it take?

In the main it took the commitment and dedication of the staff, some of whom we have provided with the tools. This was a life changing project one which it is difficult to encapsulate in this one page document on our web site. There are websites dedicated to this process. The project was as far reaching as it is possible to be - touching on adult literacy, school projects, finding lost relative, finding work - creating a centre of excellence. Our part was to provide training to the librarians in some areas of the country, who took this project and made it successful.

We developed courses in: Invigilators - (how to invigilate the ECDL testing) Train the trainers - (how to deliver all the courses below for continuity) ECDL Module one - Basic Concepts of Information Technology Module two - Using the Computer and Managing Files Module three - Word Processing Module four - Spreadsheets Module five - Databases Module six - Presentations Module seven - Information and Communication Net Navigator (searching the internet using sophisticated tools) Educator (how to educate - colleagues and members of the public) Information consultant (producing defined information outcomes) Information Technology Gatekeeper (creating and managing the web site) Information Manager (how to manage this process and keep continuity, knowledge management principles)

All courses were not only library specific but developed for each different service so that we incorporated all their own initiatives in to the training. The programme finished in March 2004. So far we have had only successful, positive feedback.
